When travelling, especially on airlines, one has to be mindful of the baggage weight limit. You do not want to pay extra for your baggage, right? So instead of guessing and estimating, call your airline company to get the right information. You should also know how to pack properly. Pack your clothes along with your instruments. They will act as padding to your equipment, and it will also save a lot of space. If you pack neat, you are less likely to be targeted by customs to have your bags searched. Always get to the airport early so that just in case your bags will be searched, you will still have plenty of time to repack your things. If your instrument is small enough, better keep it as hand luggage so you can look after it. If you had it checked it, inspect it carefully immediately after you got it from the baggage carousel. When you see any damages, report it right away to airport personnel. As you are waiting for a ride at the terminal, never ever let your baggage out of your sight. It is more advisable to bring your things with you when travelling than to have it shipped.
